Build a Korean university budget in won

Use Korean won as the working currency for comparing local quotes. Label each number as an institution charge, a national overview or your own estimate. These categories should not be combined into a single unlabeled “cost of studying in Korea.”

Study in Korea's school-types overview gives approximate annual tuition averages for four-year institutions: about ₩6.8 million nationally, ₩4.3 million for national/public institutions and ₩7.6 million for private institutions. These are broad overview figures. They do not establish the current fee for a particular department, degree, entry cycle or applicant. The page attributes its analysis to Academy Info; use the actual institution's current fee schedule for a decision.

Compare the same academic period

When a university provides a price, record whether it covers a semester, an academic year, a credit or a whole programme. Do not double a semester quote unless the current schedule and your study plan support that calculation. Keep any one-time admission charge outside the recurring tuition row.

Create a quote record containing the programme name, qualification, intake, charge period, amount, included items and source URL. Add “not yet confirmed” where necessary. The resulting table can look less complete than a list of national averages, but it will be much more useful when you need to update the plan.

Use a base scenario before counting awards

Build the first scenario from confirmed charges and your own labeled living-cost estimates. Keep possible scholarship reductions in a separate scenario. An advertised scholarship is not an award to you, and an award amount alone does not establish its payment date or renewal conditions.

For an invented arithmetic example, annual academic charges of ₩7,000,000 plus ₩800,000 monthly living expenses for twelve months and ₩1,500,000 initial expenses total ₩18,100,000. These inputs illustrate the method; they are not a national cost estimate, a funding requirement or a university quote. Replace every input with evidence relevant to your plan.

Track when funds are needed

A yearly total is only one view. Write a second schedule showing the due date and amount of each confirmed payment. Separate recurring expenses from deposits, setup purchases and travel. Mark refundable amounts only after checking the written conditions. Keep a note beside any expense that might already be included in another charge to avoid double counting.

Use the won budget calculator to add your figures. It keeps whole-won amounts and performs no exchange-rate conversion. If your funding is held in another currency, maintain that conversion assumption separately with its date and source.

Before committing, review the degree-versus-language-course guide so your budget matches the qualification and course duration you actually intend to pursue.
