Start with the source's programme label
Ontario colleges can be useful research options alongside universities, but a historical programme-headcount table answers a limited question. It shows named observations in an official reporting system. It does not show every current course, its credential or whether an international applicant can enter it today.
The connected Government of Ontario College enrolment workbook supplies a Program worksheet with four fields: College Name, Fiscal Year, Program Name (Institution) and Headcount Full-Time Fall. CollegeVerse retains the configured 2024–2025 funding-year label and institution-defined names. The selected table has no programme-level credential, campus, teaching language or study-year column.
Use the Ontario college observation directory to find a reporting college label, then search its programme names. Treat the result as a starting point for checking the college's current official catalogue and admissions pages.
What does the fiscal year mean?
The associated dictionary defines fiscal year as the year funding is relevant, aligned with the provincial government's April 1 to March 31 year. The selected headcount definition describes fall full-time registered students. These labels are retained together; they are not translated into a current admission cycle or application deadline.
The data dictionary filename refers to 2024–2025, while its internal reference mentions 2023–2024 reporting and audit procedures. CollegeVerse checked the selected fields against the downloaded workbook. A newer fiscal-year file would need its own scope review rather than a filename change alone.
A retrieval date records when the source was checked. It does not establish when an institution revised a programme, opened a new intake or changed its entry requirements.
Why are duplicate rows not added together?
The selected year's source worksheet contains fully identical repeated rows. CollegeVerse consolidates these rows into one retained observation and records the number removed in collection diagnostics. It does not add their headcounts or describe repeated copies as different programmes.
There are also rows with an empty programme name and an explicit zero. Those rows do not receive invented programme identities. They are excluded from named programme views and counted in diagnostics, with the workbook hash and source evidence retained.
Different source labels remain separate even when they look similar. In particular, internal spacing is preserved because the workbook contains similarly spelled programme names with different headcounts. Such records cannot safely be merged by removing spaces, guessing a credential or assuming a spelling mistake. Their source spacing remains visible on the detail page.
Read suppression and zero differently
An asterisk is an unavailable, suppressed count. It is not a zero and is not estimated from nearby programmes or other demographic worksheets. An explicitly reported zero remains zero and does not prove that a current course is closed.
A headcount is also not a measure of admissions selectivity or an individual applicant's chance. Larger named observations do not establish better teaching, available places, current demand or a stronger employment outcome. Those questions need different evidence.
Avoid joining unrelated worksheets by programme name
The workbook separately contains credential, campus, study-year, mother-tongue, citizenship, status and Canadian CIP summaries. The four selected Program fields do not supply keys that connect these attributes to each named observation. CollegeVerse therefore keeps those worksheets outside this programme connection.
A title containing “degree,” “graduate” or a profession does not establish an active bachelor's route, professional recognition or a current credential. A French title does not establish instruction language. A Canadian classification is not automatically a US CIP 2020 field.
Verify the questions that affect an application
After finding an interesting label, locate the institution's current official programme page. Confirm the exact credential, campus, delivery mode, teaching language, entry prerequisites, tuition category and available intake. Save each answer with its own source and review date rather than attaching the historical headcount's year to everything.
Check DLI and permit questions through the relevant official service separately. This enrolment table does not establish immigration or work-permit eligibility. Use the Canada research hub and methodology page to keep the connected Ontario college and university populations distinct while researching your next steps.
