What to verify for this unit
- Use unit code 1001O7385 and the exact provider and location codes when checking the intended programme with its provider.
- Match VORM and VOERTAAL within the same contextual row, then check the current curriculum and teaching-language requirements with the provider.
- Check the original offering and intake dates below. An empty end date does not confirm an open intake or a current application deadline.
Original DUO RIO overview of funded current and future higher education education records. OPLEIDING means a programme and VARIANT a programme variant. Each unit page groups only the original OPLEIDINGSEENHEIDCODE; an offering or location is not counted as a separate degree. The list does not cover every private provider or guarantee that applications are open.
Reported start, end and intake dates remain source evidence rather than a promise of current availability. A missing end date does not establish an open intake. Names, qualification labels, codes, languages and missing values remain in Dutch. No CIP equivalence, inferred admissions conditions or institution-name matches are added. Contextual offering records and source-name aliases are preserved together.

- Communication impacts many of today's societal challenges, as it determines how people perceive life science issues as well as their potential solutions. For example, media portrayals of climate change determine whether people believe climate change exists; is human-caused; and can be mitigated through energy transition. As for health, many people rely on social media for finding information about healthy lifestyles including what to eat or not, or whether getting a vaccination is safe and effective. In these examples, communication is a complex process of interaction in which audiences interact with other people, online or face-to-face, to actively process and produce messages and meanings. They do this to get a grasp of what an issue means to them, how to deal with it, and in this process people strongly influence each other.\n\nThe MSc program Communication, Health and Life Sciences trains students to understand, analyse and facilitate change in complex societal settings related to life science domains, such as climate change, sustainability, food, and health. The program teaches students about the role of communication in addressing societal challenges and opportunities from various disciplinary and stakeholder perspectives. Students learn to translate these issues for different audiences as well as connect science with society, scientists with health professionals, experts with citizens, and different professions. Students develop and apply integrated approaches within and beyond scientific disciplines.\n\nThe program embraces a multi-level approach focusing on the impact of communication on and between individuals, groups and organisations in today's network society. During their studies, students explore processes of communication, interaction, change and innovation within life science domains. They look at the interplay between planned and unplanned change; intervention and behavioural change; media, contestation, conflict and cooperation in pluralistic societies; and the role of 'experts' and 'expertise' in society.\n\n\n\nSpecialisation A - Communication, Science and Society\n\nThis specialization focusses on understanding the way in which science and society interact in addressing complex societal challenges, with special attention to how communicative dynamics influence whether science-based solutions become accepted or contested in society. Particular emphasis is placed on how communicative interventions can enhance the societal relevance and impact of scientific endeavors. The specialization seeks to understand how social problems and challenges are defined, framed and addressed by citizens, scientists, media, practitioners and policy-makers, and whether and why different perspectives become aligned or polarized in processes of change.
