Read across each row to keep its provider, location, study form and teaching language together. Values from different rows should not be combined into one offering.

What to verify for this unit

Original DUO RIO overview of funded current and future higher education education records. OPLEIDING means a programme and VARIANT a programme variant. Each unit page groups only the original OPLEIDINGSEENHEIDCODE; an offering or location is not counted as a separate degree. The list does not cover every private provider or guarantee that applications are open.

Reported start, end and intake dates remain source evidence rather than a promise of current availability. A missing end date does not establish an open intake. Names, qualification labels, codes, languages and missing values remain in Dutch. No CIP equivalence, inferred admissions conditions or institution-name matches are added. Contextual offering records and source-name aliases are preserved together.

OMSCHRIJVING
Understanding the complexities of world affairs requires an ability to think critically and to draw insights from a variety of perspectives, sources, and analytic frames. Leiden University’s Master of Arts in International Relations addresses these needs through distinctive humanities-based and multidisciplinary training in international relations that draws on the University’s internationally-recognised strengths.\n\nThe programme (60 EC total – 30 EC per semester) consists of a specialisation-specific Core Course, a general core course Humanities-based International Relations, as well as a methods course and a thesis. The remaining 20 EC (10 EC per semester) can be acquired by choosing two electives (max. 20 students per elective): one elective has to be chosen from the core specialization electives, the other elective can be picked from the complete list of electives that are offered for the specialization (core specialization electives and additional electives).\n\nPlease note that there may be additional entry requirements for electives that are offered by other departments, and that the number of places available for MA International Relations students might be limited. Also make sure you read the details under ‘more info’ for more detailed information about the curriculum and your options.\n\nAll students have to apply for admission, see [masters in leiden](https://www.universiteitleiden.nl/en/education/study-programmes/master/international-relations).
