What to verify for this unit

Original DUO RIO overview of funded current and future higher education education records. OPLEIDING means a programme and VARIANT a programme variant. Each unit page groups only the original OPLEIDINGSEENHEIDCODE; an offering or location is not counted as a separate degree. The list does not cover every private provider or guarantee that applications are open.

Reported start, end and intake dates remain source evidence rather than a promise of current availability. A missing end date does not establish an open intake. Names, qualification labels, codes, languages and missing values remain in Dutch. No CIP equivalence, inferred admissions conditions or institution-name matches are added. Contextual offering records and source-name aliases are preserved together.

OMSCHRIJVING
Tourism is a powerful force that shapes how people, places, and societies evolve. People travel for leisure, business, education, medical care and countless other reasons, and these movements set in motion economic, cultural, social, political, technological, environmental and spatial processes. Understanding tourism therefore means understanding the dynamics of society and the environment at large.\n\nThe MSc Tourism, Society and Environment at Wageningen University takes tourism as a lens through which to study these wider transformations. As tourism continues to grow worldwide, its social, economic and environmental impacts demand critical, research based insights. This two-year social science programme as such equips students to not just analyze tourism as an isolated industry, but rather as a complex set of practices (or system) embedded in broader societal change.\n\n\n\nStudents in this programme develop the ability to:\n\n* gain in-depth knowledge and critical awareness of the role tourism plays in society and the environment;\n* understand different scientific paradigms and evaluate the relevance of multiple academic disciplines;\n* design and carry out an independent scientific research project;\n* translate research findings into innovative approaches and tangible solutions through co-creation with societal partners;\n* explore and articulate their own academic and professional role in contributing to responsible change.\n\nGraduates leave the programme prepared to engage with pressing global challenges, contribute to interdisciplinary research, and work collaboratively towards a more just and sustainable future.
