What to verify for this unit

Original DUO RIO overview of funded current and future higher education education records. OPLEIDING means a programme and VARIANT a programme variant. Each unit page groups only the original OPLEIDINGSEENHEIDCODE; an offering or location is not counted as a separate degree. The list does not cover every private provider or guarantee that applications are open.

Reported start, end and intake dates remain source evidence rather than a promise of current availability. A missing end date does not establish an open intake. Names, qualification labels, codes, languages and missing values remain in Dutch. No CIP equivalence, inferred admissions conditions or institution-name matches are added. Contextual offering records and source-name aliases are preserved together.

OMSCHRIJVING
The BSc programme Earth System Sciences is a programme in the domain of Earth Sciences and focuses on the outer Earth's crust and the atmosphere in relation to their significance to mankind. It focuses on the structures and patterns found at the Earth's surface and on the physical, chemical and biological processes operating within and between the lithosphere, the pedosphere, the hydrosphere, the atmosphere, and the biosphere at various spatial and temporal levels. In addition, Earth System Sciences deals with the impact of human activities on the Earth and with sustainability issues on the Earth's surface and atmosphere. The education offered in the programme aims to pass on knowledge, skills and academic attitude that enable its students to recognize, analyse and answer questions in the interrelated fields of soil, water and atmosphere. During the first two years of the programme, students acquire comprehensive knowledge of the various domains in the Earth System (i.e. soil, water and atmosphere) and thorough knowledge of mathematics, physics and chemistry. The programme has a distinctly integrative approach and is unique in its focus on the interaction between the environment and humans. Fieldwork, excursions, and other forms of practical instruction (e.g. lab practicals as well as modelling practicals) make up an important part of the programme. In the third year, students may choose from a number of advanced courses that focus on subdomains of the Earth System, or specific methods used in Earth System Sciences. Half a year of optional courses makes it possible for students to broaden or deepen their knowledge in or beyond the domain of Earth System Sciences, include a minor **(**including the education minor for physics, math and geography or an exchange period abroad), or prepare for various master's degree programmes. The programme is concluded with an individual thesis.
