What to verify for this unit
- Use unit code 1001O6103 and the exact provider and location codes when checking the intended programme with its provider.
- Match VORM and VOERTAAL within the same contextual row, then check the current curriculum and teaching-language requirements with the provider.
- Check the original offering and intake dates below. An empty end date does not confirm an open intake or a current application deadline.
Original DUO RIO overview of funded current and future higher education education records. OPLEIDING means a programme and VARIANT a programme variant. Each unit page groups only the original OPLEIDINGSEENHEIDCODE; an offering or location is not counted as a separate degree. The list does not cover every private provider or guarantee that applications are open.
Reported start, end and intake dates remain source evidence rather than a promise of current availability. A missing end date does not establish an open intake. Names, qualification labels, codes, languages and missing values remain in Dutch. No CIP equivalence, inferred admissions conditions or institution-name matches are added. Contextual offering records and source-name aliases are preserved together.

- The BSc programme in Animal Sciences is an English taught international academic programme in applied animal biology. The programme is directed to all types of domesticated animals, such as livestock (farm animals, mainly cattle, pigs, and poultry), fish (including fisheries), companion animals (horses, dogs and cats), and (to a lesser extent) wild animals, in any function for human use and well-being. Examples of such functions include food production, companionship, sports, waste processing, nature conservation, and educational and recreational purposes. The programme focuses on sustainable animal production systems, animal health and welfare, genetics, nutrition, immunology, animal behaviour, and animal ecology. Students are trained to become aware of the need for inter- and transdisciplinary approaches in animal sciences and of the ethical dilemmas surrounding the care and husbandry of animals.\n\nThe objective of the programme is to educate critical academic professionals who can explore sustainable development options for complex, society-driven problems of a wide range of animal husbandry systems. Development of such systems is constrained by technical factors (such as feed supply, animal health, level of management, or genetic diversity) and by infra-structural, ecological, and socio-economic factors. Students are trained to become aware of the global context of their domain (e.g. animal-human interactions become increasingly important in high-income developed countries, whereas food security in terms of animal protein is still a key issue in developing countries worldwide).\n\nThroughout the BSc programme, students will train several transferable academic skills within the different courses. In the Skills Academy, which spans the three years of our BSc programme, learning lines for writing, presenting, collaborating, and boundary crossing are in place to ensure students get instructed, get feedback, practice with the skills, and get assessed. Students reflect yearly on their own learning process. Generative AI (genAI) is becoming more and more intertwined with our daily work, helping to understand large datasets and integrating results. However, critical appraisal of genAI output, proper prompting, and ethical considerations of genAI use are becoming crucial for academic professionals and therefore receive increasing attention in our courses and programme.\n\nDuring our BSc programme, students encounter different levels of animal biology, from population and systems analysis to the molecular level. Our students obtain a solid background in quantitative, biological, and molecular techniques. In year two, students choose one of two specialisations. The specialisation Animal Management and Care has a focus on how to manage the animals we care for in
